* Some Questions for Brent Laing:

How has curling changed your life?

Curling has allowed me the opportunity to travel across Canada and into Europe to compete in world class events and meet a lot of great people.

What would you be doing with your spare time if you weren’t a competitive curler?

I’d be snowboarding more, traveling more, and unfortunately, working more.

What is your greatest curling moment?

Winning the Canadian juniors in 1998!

Where is your favorite place in the world to curl?

Canada… you can’t beat Canadian fans!!

What’s the best curling event you’ve ever played in?

Most fun to play in: TSN Skins game

Best Atmosphere/Fans:

Tie: 2002 Brier in the Saddledome in Calgary and the 1998 World Jr’s in Thunder Bay

Who’s “The Boss” on the current team?

Rich….. whatever Richie wants!!

Who was your curling idol growing up?

The Howard Team of the early 90’s

What does curling need to do to improve its image?

Somehow we need to appeal to a wider (younger) audience. I think that the Grand Slam is headed in the right direction…. The atmosphere at a Grand Slam seems to be a lot of fun for the fans! We need to shake the game up a little….make the atmosphere at a curling game more like a hockey game….lots of energy in the stands and on the ice… maybe a few “Tiger like” emotional outbursts from the players.

What is this teams’ greatest strength? Weakness?

Team chemistry seems to be a strength that we have had since the beginning… maybe we are still in the “honeymoon phase”?? But I don’t think so… we seem to be getting better and better as a team. Weakness?? Hopefully not many…. Probably that we are still a fairly new team, so we are still learning about each other on and off the ice….as we play in more and more big pressure situations together we will become a better team.

What got you involved in curling?

My parents and school. My parents are curlers and we started curling in gym class in elementary school. (grade 3 I think) I was hooked from the beginning.

We hear that you are all golfers… what is your handicap? Honestly!!

I think I ended the year at a 5.9 index, which translates into a 7 handicap at my course. (Grandview Golf Club)

Snowboarding or skiing?

Snowboarding for sure.

Leafs or Senators?

This has to be the easiest question that I have ever had on a test!! Leafs!! I think that the playoff historybetween these two teams shows time and time again that the Leafs are a superior hockey team, and the majority of my teammates will agree!
